-- Class-leading torque (376 lb.-ft.) and driving range (450 miles); outstanding towing (7,400 lbs.)

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Nov. 12 /- In the continuing effort to increase consumer awareness on the benefits of diesel technology, Chrysler LLC has expanded the Jeep(R) Grand Cherokee diesel lineup to include the 3.0-liter V-6 diesel engine on the 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo (X Package). Pricing for the diesel engine option also has been reduced by $1,000 on the 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited and Overland models equipped with the class-leading diesel engine.

The manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) for the 3.0-liter V-6 diesel engine on the Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo is $2,585 for 4x2 models and $3,235 for 4x4 models.

The reduced MSRP for the diesel engine on the 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited is $1,655 for 4x2 and 4x4 models and the MSRP for the diesel engine on the 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 4x2 and 4x4 models is $1,010. "The 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel offers class-leading torque and driving range as well as outstanding towing capacity," said John Plecha, Director -- Jeep Brand Marketing and Global Communications. "By expanding engine availability and reducing existing prices we hope that more consumers will be encouraged to take advantage of this clean, renewable fuel. The 3.0-liter V-6 diesel engine, built by Mercedes-Benz, produces 215 hp (160 kW) @ 3,800 rpm, has a class-leading 376 lb.-ft. torque (510 N*m) @ 1,600-2,800 rpm and can tow up to 7,400 pounds. The 3.0-liter engine gives the Jeep Grand Cherokee a class-leading driving range of approximately 450 miles and gets an estimated fuel economy of 18 miles city and 23 miles highway for 4x2 models and 17 miles city and 22 miles highway for 4x4 models. Earlier in the year, the engine earned a spot on Ward's "10 Best Engines" list.

Clean diesel technology improves fuel economy by up to 30 percent and has up to 20 percent lower carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. The Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel is available in 42 states, excluding California, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island.

Jeep Outdoor Parking Campaign

Chrysler LLC has turned to the guerrilla marketing strategy to promote the Jeep brand in the city of Copenhagen in Denmark by painting parking spaces in weird places like over steps and trees. The "guerrilla marketing" concept was created by Jay Conrad Levinson and it is used to describe nontraditional, low-cost or no-cost ways of highly effective marketing, promoting, advertising, publicizing, etc. efforts. While many people might be annoyed by the fact that Jeep is telling people that they can park in pedestrian zones or up a tree, we find the campaign quite innovative and... honest -it shows the real use of 4x4s in cities… -More images after the jump

2007 SEMA: Jeep Wrangler Ultimate With 6.4-liter V8 Hemi

Jeep has dropped more info on the Wrangler Ultimate concept which we first saw last May along with the JT Concept (Wrangler pickup – click here) at the Chrysler Proving Ground. Based on the four door 2008 Wrangler Unlimited, the SEMA Show concept is equipped with a Chrysler’s 6.4-liter (392 cu.i) V8 Hemi crate engine. Though Jeep hasn’t specified which of the three available 392 Hemi engines has been chosen for the Ultimate, we’re guessing it’s the 525 Hp strong fuel injected version.

Engine aside, the concept also features an enhanced suspension with a 3-in. lift to fit the immense 35-in. BF Goodrich Mud Terrain tires mounted on 18-in. alloys, chromed exterior details, Nappa leather interior and a multimedia infotainment system. -Details and high res images after the jump

PRESS RELEASE: The Jeep Wrangler Ultimate with 392 HEMI® from Mopar
Designer: Mark Allen, Chief Designer – Jeep/Dodge Truck Studios

The name says it all.

The Jeep Wrangler Ultimate with 392 HEMI from Mopar is a concept vehicle that answers the question "how far can you go with the new Jeep Wrangler?" Beginning with the all-new Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon®, the design team set out to create the best of the best – combining high style and materials with the best off-road machine ever offered by Jeep.

The suspension is enhanced with a 3-in. lift to clear the massive 35-in. BF Goodrich Mud Terrain tires mounted on custom, polished Alcoa Forged 18-in. wheels. The exterior is chromed out courtesy of Mopar:
fuel filler door

taillamp guards

tubular side steps

exterior mirrors

tow hooks

door handles

hood hinges

fascia overlays

To complete the look, the exterior is coated in a wildly experimental 'Liquid Charcoal Pearl Coat' paint.

The Wrangler Ultimate's real story is its interior. Taking cues from rugged adventure sports bags and accessories, the team created a high style and detailed interior compartment that is as tough and beautiful as the exterior. Seating surfaces are clad in durable orange mesh fabric and dark slate gray Nappa/Province leather – bound with a heavy black-leather baseball stitch. Instrument panel details are treated to a stunning Argent Pearl/Satin Silver paint combination, reinforcing the machine character for which Jeep is known. The interior is also home to the exclusive MyGIG™ Multimedia Infotainment System. There are also DVD screens for passengers in the front and rear.

To provide authentic performance on the trail, the team also dropped in a 392 HEMI crate motor.

Video: The Art Of Licking A Chocolate Covered Jeep

A couple of days ago, Chrysler organized the “Sweetest Day the Jeep Way” challenge in Cleveland where contestants had to lick their way through one of seven chocolate-covered Jeep vehicles. The first two that licked their way through the chocolate had to find a set of keys hidden in a Liberty filled with wrapped candy. In the end, Anne Gemkow from Chicago, won the Jeep Liberty

Honestly, it’s been a while since we laughed so hard. You can get a taste (…) of the contestants in Jeep’s official video above but in order to fully appreciate the art of licking you HAVE to see the b-roll footage. Trust us; you’ll find it hilarious - though we do know a couple of lads that might actually find this umm kinda hot… Click here to see the b-roll footage on Jeep’s official site

Jeep J8: Military Version Of The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

Chrysler Group or rather Chrysler LLC, presented the Jeep J8 multipurpose vehicle at the '07 Defence Systems & Equipment International (DSEi) military trade show that takes place in the UK (Sep. 11-14). Aimed for military service, the J8 is based on the Wrangler Unlimited and it’ll be offered as a 2-door pickup or a 4-door multipurpose vehicle. The J8 will be produced in a Chrysler LLC joint-venture facility in Cairo, Egypt, and will be available from spring 2008.

Jeep’s engineers have increased the Wrangler Unlimited’s capability and versatility by reinforcing the frame for increased ruggedness and greater payloads – up to 1,339 kg (2,952 lbs.) while all systems -axles, brakes and suspension components, are also engineered for heavy duty use. Another feature of the J8 is its heavy-duty bumpers with “tow eyes” that allow it to be transported by airplane or helicopter. -Continued after the jump

Powered by a 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that produces 158 Hp and 400 Nm (295 lb.-ft.) of torque, the Jeep J8 features a towing capability of up to 3,500 kg (7,716 lbs.). The 2.8L diesel-engine is mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission. The J8 also features a unique air-intake system with special filtration and a hood-mounted snorkel that enables it to wade in water up to 762 mm (30 in.) deep and tackle sandstorm conditions for up to five hours.

According to Jeep, while the J8 isn’t designed for actual front-line combat operations, it is however fully armor capable and it can be used in a variety of duties ranging from command vehicle to troop/cargo carrier, ambulance, communications vehicle etc. Sounds great, how about a civilian version guys?

Thomas Hausch, Vice President – International Sales, Chrysler LLC

“Jeep vehicles made their original debut in 1941 for military duty, and have built their reputation with more than 65 years as the world’s benchmark for off-road capability and versatility for civilian and military vehicles”

“The new Jeep J8 marks the brand’s return to vehicle production for military and civilian government use – the same capability that makes the Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited famous also makes the Jeep J8 a truly multipurpose vehicle.”

Watch Out: Jumbo Jet Lands On Jeep Grand Cherokee

Though it might look like a web-commercial at first, this is actually a short action film dubbed “405” which came out in 2000. Directed and written by Bruce Branit and Jeremy Hunt, the short film features a guy driving a jeep Grand Cherokee on the busy I-405 freeway in Los Angeles. Suddenly the radio traffic reporter gets word that the police have cleared a two-mile stretch of the freeway because an airplane (McDonnell Douglas DC-10) needs to make an emergency landing

Chrysler Group announced on Tuesday, July 3 that it was recalling more than 80.000 or to be exact, 80.894 2007 Jeep Wrangler and Dodge Nitro SUV models in the States due to a defect that could cause power interruptions leading to a short engine stall. Jeep Wrangler & Wrangler Unlimited Tweaked By Brabus – Startech

20-inch rims & 285/50 rubber? While we find these sorts of mods utterly pointless for a thoroughbred 4x4 we’ll secretly admit to liking Startech’s accessories program, available for both short wheelbase and the long wheelbase Wranglers. Beginning with the wheels, Brabus’ Chrysler Group tuning arm offers polished five-spoke, 20-inch Monostar rims with 285/50 on/off tires.

Exterior-wise, Startech has equipped the Wrangler with tubular side guards (for short and long wheelbase models) to protect the rocker panels and partially hide the Jeep’s frame from view while the spare wheel cover gets a with high-gloss stainless-steel ring. The interior of the Jeep can also be upgraded with highly polished scuff plates and Startech’s own sport steering wheel. Additional customization requests can be fulfilled by the company-own Startech upholstery shop that offers among others, partial and fully leather interiors made from Mastik leather. -Continued after the jump

Startech motor engineers are currently developing the SD 4T tuning module for the 2.8-liter (171 cu. in.) common-rail turbodiesel engine along with new sport exhausts available for all engine and body variants of the Jeep. The fully stainless-steel exhausts feature one characteristic oval chrome tailpipe each on the right and left, and produce a more sonorous engine sound, while at the same time promise to optimize power yield.

Jeep Wrangler Ultimate & JT: 2007 SEMA Concepts

Jeep decided to share with us the first pictures of their upcoming Wrangler based Ultimate & JT concepts both of which will make their public appearance at the 2007 SEMA Show in October. Beginning with the sand-colour JT, the 4x4 pick-up is based on the new Wrangler Unlimited's 116-inch wheelbase platform featuring a 5-foot pickup bed and an easy-to-handle removable hardtop. Its off road capabilities have been enhanced thanks to the 3-inch suspension lift provided by Superlift, the 35-inch BF Goodrich Mud Terrain tires, the Mopar rear bumper & rock rails and an a Ramsey 9500 UT winch.

Coated in an experimental colour dubbed “Liquid Charcoal Pearl Coat”, the Wrangler Unlimited based Ultimate gets the same suspension and tire upgrade as the JT adding a heap of Mopar exterior chrome enhancements (including: fuel filler door, tail lamp guards, tubular side steps, exterior mirrors, tow hooks, door handles, hood hinge & fascia overlays). Jeep also took a shot at the interior adding clad seating surfaces in durable orange mesh fabric and dark slate gray Nappa/Province leather – bound with a heavy black-leather baseball stitch while the instrument panel details are treated to an Argent Pearl/Satin Silver paint combination. -High-res Image gallery after the jump
