Win A 2009 Chevrolet Camaro Bumblebee Transformers Replica!

Chevrolet has kicked off “The Bumblebee Camaro Sweepstakes” competition which will see three lucky chaps winning a 2009 Chevy Camaro modified to resemble the exterior of Bumblebee, as seen in this summer’s blockbuster film, Transformers. The Bumblebee Sweepstakes is open to all legal residents of the U.S. and Canada (excluding Quebec Province) over the age of 18 and begins on 10/16/07 and ends on 1/15/08. The winners will be announced on January 30, 2008.

A bit off topic, but we checked out the small print in the “Rules & Regulations” section and we discovered that, the Transformers Bumblebee Replica Edition has an approximate retail value of $40,000. According to Chevrolet, the price is based on forecasted 2009 Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of a base model Chevrolet Camaro. Link: Chevy

Ed Welburn Hugging A Chevy Camaro Prototype...

Aww, aint that cute? Well, no it’s actually funny but that’s another story. As you might have read on Carscoop earlier today (click here), GM’s Vice President, Bob Lutz visited Australia along with GM Vice President for Global Design Ed Welburn to check out Holden and the internationally sourced product development team working on the carmaker’s global rear-wheel-drive cars. When Ed Welburn saw his creation in near production form he ran over to it and, well you can see what happened in the image above. We did request the photo earlier and although this is pure coincidence, just in case it isn’t, we’d like to ask Bob Lutz for a second image -there must be more images stored in that Blackberry! We promise to (any) God that we won’t tell on him.

GM’s Bob Lutz Goes Down-Under And Takes The Camaro For A Spin

GM’s Vice Chairman Bob Lutz completed a business trip to Australia visiting Holden (and apparently the 2007 Sydney Motor Show) and decided to do a write-up on the company’s official blog (Fastlane). Lutz was quite impressed with GM’s Aussie subsidiary and especially with Holden’s “passion for excellence and dedication to the product” as he described the carmaker in his own words.

He also had the chance to take several current and forthcoming rear-wheel drive models for a spin including the first fully representative prototype of the 2009 Camaro with close to final surfaces. Though the car isn’t ready yet, GM’s 72-year-old VC was moderately impressed with the Camaro. Here’s what he had to say about it:

“Twisting the key produced a muted rumble from the big V8. We pulled away smoothly in the first cog of the new, slick, six-speed manual. Depressing the accelerator shifted the world into fast forward, with three or four more quick upshifts. The car had just been completed and had had no tuning or finessing. But I loved the response, the sound, the steering and the brakes. There's more work to be done, for sure, and the group knows it. They still have time for further development. The goal of the team led by Gene Stefanyshyn is to produce the finest car in its class, ever. Do I think they will get there? I wouldn't bet against that team!” -Continued after the jump

Though Lutz did take pictures, he noted that he couldn’t share them with us. Oh come on, a little leak never hurt anybody. Think of all the buzz you’d create…

Chevy Camaro Cross-dressed As A Mustang

Too much time combined with so little taste can have catastrophic results. Take the owner of this Chevrolet Camaro for example; yes, we could live with the “bumblebee” paintjob but the Ford Mustang look-alike front end is something that even “Dr. 90210” would find repulsive. As for the title of the forum thread in Xmodsource, “Warning: you will crap your pants”, what can we say… -More images after the jump

VW Based Chevrolet Camaro Replica

Here’s America’s answer to all those greenish-eco-friendly prototypes and production vehicles that caught our attention at this year’s Frankfurt Show: a low weight compact coupe with a 4cylinder engine that hides its technologically advanced powertrain underneath a fiber-glass body inspired from the 70's Chevy Camaro. Its small, its unique, its cheap to run and you can buy it as low as $3,000. What possibly could you want more from a car? -Extra images after the jump

Vehicle description

This is a 1976 VW car with a 1971 Fiber Glass Carmaro Body. The paint is Green Matlic paint with green metal flake in the clear coat. The paint flawless!!! The car is sitting on 15 inch cragers. These wheels are hard to find. The Odometer reading is 45,000 miles but the title says that is not the actual mile. (There was a mix up at the local clerks office but this is the original miles on the car). The engine is a 16 single port 4 cyl. and the trans mission is from a bus.

What The Bug? Chevy Camaro Replica Based On VW Beetle!

Continuing our Bug saga (see the Hummer Bug here and the Porsche 911 Bug here), we discovered yet another weird replica based on the VW Beetle. The Bug..aro, a ‘66 Beetle dressed as second generation, 1972 Chevrolet Camaro looks more like the premature offspring of a Texan mullet-hair ranger and a… Woodstock hippy than a real replica. The project isn’t finished yet but if you place your bid on eBay to obtain it you could be well on your way to creating a one-of-a-kind mini-muscle car. -Continued: Click “Read More…” below

Video: GM’s Camaro Designers Talk About The Transformers Movie

GM Blogs just released two videos featuring lead Camaro interior designer Micah Jones and GM’s Director of rear-wheel drive performance cars and Corvette, Tom Peters, talking about the Camaro and the forthcoming Transformers Movie. Yes, we agree both are acting kinda geeky but to be honest, we definitely prefer these folks to all those Armani suited car-folks walking around with a set of yellow-Bilsteins stuck up their a$... -Follow the jump to see both videos

Transformers: Bumblebee Makes A Guest Appearance At The Barcelona Show

Barely a month before the long-awaited Transformers Movie hits the big screen (July 4) and the producers of the film decided to take Bumblebee for a cross Atlantic jaunt over to the 2007 Barcelona Motor Show (June 7-19). In case you’re wondering why we’re not seeing the '09 Chevrolet Camaro, that’s because Bumblebee will start off in the film as ’76 F-Body Camaro that later becomes the '09 version.

Chevrolet Camaro "RIP"...

In a couple of years, thousands will be lining up in Chevy dealers getting ready to place a down payment for the all new Camaro. Many will do it to re-live their adolescence without spending time or money in restoring, others just to make a quick buck by reselling the first pieces on e-bay and hopefully, many by the car itself. Same goes for the Dodge Challenger. But what about the cars that actually inspired this retro muscle-craze, what did fate behold for them?

Well, some lucky ones found a home in your everyday garage where they’ll spend the rest of their life “married” to passionate everyday folks who’ll cherish them and treat them with an occasional spin. Others, less fortunate spend most of their time between “rest-homes” and auction halls. Even worse though, some like the Camaros shown in the pictures are cursed to stay still in graveyards abandoned to the harsh hands of nature till rust takes all….

Super Chevy mag stumbled upon this car graveyard filled with first & second-generation Chevrolet Camaro located somewhere in Southern California. Don’t tell me that seeing these Camaros doesn’t burn a few heart valves. Via: Motorpassion & Super Chevy

Drop-top gorgeous – Chevrolet Camaro Cabrio official pics

Embargo what? Oh, just read what we wrote earlier this morning so we can continue with what really matters to car enthusiasts like ourselves. Ok, maybe Dani’s prayers for a T-Top Camaro weren’t answered but by God, this is one hell of a beauty.-Continued: Click “Read More…” below

Painted in a super-sexy deep orange colour with retro black stripes, the cabrio version of last years Camaro Concept is expected to find its way to production shortly after its coupe sibling is introduced to the market in 2009. Apart from the absence of a metallic roof, there’s no other significant differentiation between the Camaro Coupe Concept and Cabrio. We’ll have more on Chevy’s gorgeous Camaro Cabrio when GM unveils it… officially on Saturday prior to its Detroit Show debut.
