Nuts! Subaru WRX STI-Powered ATV Video

Ok, it’s one thing looking at pictures of Ken Brough’s awesome hand-built ATV (
or Quad-Bike) that’s powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine from a Subaru Impreza WRX STi but seeing and hearing it in live action, is something else. Once you’re finished watching the video (don’t be shy, do it more than once, we did) you can click here and read the story behind this invigorating Quad.

Booo, it’s the Subaruuuuu! The Halloween special edition of the 2008 Impreza WRX hatch was presented at the 2007 SEMA Show earlier this week along with a few other tricked out Imprezas which you can check out here, here and here. This one-of-a-kind WRX features Halloween lighting effects to the headlights, taillights, wheel openings, front grille and undercarriage all wrapped in a Halloween-themed orange and black body. 2008 Subaru Impreza 2.5i Sedan By STi & Kicker

Continuing with our reports on the supped up Imprezas that appeared at the SEMA Show (click here and here) this red-to-the-bone Subie was created by audio specialist Kicker. Using the 2008 Impreza 2.5i Sedan as a base, Kicker equipped the car with a full line of Kicker car audio equipment including Kicker speakers and two Clarion VMA7196 7” monitors highlighting an Xbox360 game-console. When it came to bodywork and mechanical tuning, Kicker took a look at the STI accessories bin fitting the Impreza Sedan with STI sport springs and a carbon fiber body kit. Inside, the tweaked Impreza features a roll cage and Sparco bucket seats.

SEMA: 450 Hp 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX by SPT

We promised you that we would bring out more tweaked Imprezas from the 2007 SEMA Show, so here goes. Albeit this 2008 Impreza WRX 5-door looks pretty stock (apart from the Prodrive 18-inch GTI wheels and the decals that is), truth is this Subie has received some serious tuning under the hood. -Continued after the jump

Developed by Subaru Performance Tuning (SPT), the WRX’s 2.5-litre boxer unit features extensive engine tuning parts including; programmable engine management system, AIT and Map sensor, Harman Motive GT35R Turbo kit, STI 6-speed transmission and STI Twin Plate clutch. The result is a whopping 450 Hp, which should prove adequate for some serious fun.

We don’t have pictures of the interior but according to Subaru, SPT has equipped the 2008 WRX's cabin with a pair of Sparco bucket seats and harnesses, a full roll cage and custom gauges. Stay… tuned on Carscoop for more SEMA-fied Imprezas.

SEMA: 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX Sedan by SCC

Subaru (of America) displayed several customized 2008 Impreza models during the SEMA show, but this one caught our attention thanks to the cool custom flat-black paint job –don’t worry, we’ll be bringing you more supped up Imprezas shortly, that’s nicely offset by the white painted Prodrive 18-inch wheels. -Continued after the jump

Created by Sports Compact Car magazine (SSC), the 2008 Impreza WRX Sedan project features heaps of goodies including a carbon fiber body kit, an SPT cat-back exhaust system and turbo heat shield, Crawford Performance downpipe and I-Speed USA ECU. Stopping power comes from AP Racing front four-piston big brake kit, 13-inch two-piece front brake rotors and rear two-piston big brake kit with 13-inch rear brake rotors. Inside, the supped up Impreza WRX Sedan features a Pioneer Electronics stereo and Sparco seats.

Video: 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STi

Here’s the first official video of the 2008 Impreza WRX STi that was revealed at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show in mid-October (see pics here). The car viewed here is the Japanese market version which is fitted with a turbocharged 2.0-liter boxer engine producing 304 Hp. In Europe, the U.S. and other markets, the STi will be powered by revised version of the current 2.5-liter Turbo boxer unit delivering 296 Hp.

Prodrive To Tweak 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STi

UK rally specialist Prodrive is readying a performance package for the all-new 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STi (see Euro spec model here) that will include power and chassis upgrades. According to a report from Brit magazine Autocar, the 2008 STi’s 296 Hp 2.5-litre turbocharged boxer engine (lightly modified version of the previous STi’s engine) will likely get a boost of 100 Hp offering supercar-level performance. Along with the engine upgrade Prodrive will also enhance the 2008 STi’s brake and suspension components.

Subaru Announces 2008 Impreza WRX STi Group N Rally Car

Subaru revealed today the 2008 Impreza WRX STi Group N which is based on the domestic Japanese spec model. The rally prepped Impreza will be sold at specially agreed motorsport bases (STI base teams) in Europe, South Africa, etc. for use in the 2008 season. As a Group N vehicle and in contrast to the Group A all-out competition production-derived vehicles, the STi features limited modifications compared to the standard specification model. For example, the Group N STi’s 2.0-liter turbocharged boxer unit delivers the same output (304 Hp) and maximum torque figure (43,0 Kgm) as the standard STi. -Details after the jump

Press Release - New Model IMPREZA WRX STI : Sale of FIA Group N Rally Base Vehicle

Subaru Tecnica International (STI) has decided on the standard specification of the FIA (International Automobile Federation) Group N car with the new Impreza WRX STI, sold by FHI as a base vehicle. They will be sold at specially agreed motorsport bases (STI base teams) in Europe, South Africa, etc. for use as rally base cars.

The new IMPREZA WRX STI (vehicle type: Subaru CBA-GRB) that went on sale on October 24th for the domestic market is a 5 door car with the combination of Subaru’s unique symmetrical AWD chassis layout and high power horizontally-opposed 2 liter turbo engine. They have continued development for the customer-prepared Group N rally cars to be presented in 2008 or after, exchanging information with the FHI production car development team, to improve elements and the competitiveness necessary for rallying. As soon as the base vehicles go on sale, the FIA VO parts for Group N and the STI sport parts for increased competitiveness will be released. FHI has decided that they will apply for FIA Group N status for the new IMPREZA WRX STI, and are aiming to get approval on January 1st 2008.

The new IMPREZA WRX STI features improved basic chassis functionality, including increased maneuverability through modifications to the front suspension geometry, better stability in straight line movement through a larger wheelbase, and better road-holding through the adoption of a double wishbone rear suspension. In addition, by adopting an active valve control system (AVCS) that sucks in emissions, an electronically controlled throttle, strengthened conrods and such, they have increased engine performance ? mainly the power output and torque, allowing for even more precise engine settings. The 3-mode SI drive and multi-mode DCCD (drivers control differential) - which control the different characteristics of the engine
fs torque - have computerized controls, allowing users infinite possibilities in rally competition. In addition to all this, they have cut back on the rear overhang, altered the distribution of weight in the front and rear, raised the centre of gravity, and optimized the height of the roll centre, all of which contribute to the increased performance in rallying of the new machine.

STI has been working on the development of the new IMPREZA WRX STI Group N model for a long time, cooperating with the previously mentioned STI base teams, finalizing the standard specification after development tests carried out in Europe and South America. The results of rough gravel tests in South America and the twisty smooth gravel tests in Northern Europe have shown that the new model has better performance through improved times recorded on these tests.

The Group N base vehicle, based on the domestic Japanese model, will be delivered to STI base teams around the world for the 2008 season.

STI Group N project

STI started the Group N project in 2003 to expand its business within the FIA Group N category, the most popular class in world rallying. They appointed George Donaldson from the UK as the local general manager of STI, for research, marketing, and other motor sports-related purposes in Europe. He has mainly been undertaking support for IMPREZA entrants in the FIA Production car World Rally Championship (P-WRC), local FIA competitions, and other domestic rallies in various countries.

From 2004, STI created specially agreed motorsport bases called
gSTI base teams.h Their concept is for STI and the base teams to join forces to expand Group N, and they have made marketing efforts with Prodrive from the UK and Tommi Makinen Racing from Finland.
This organization has recently made contracts with Barratero Racing from Argentina, Uspenskiy Rally Technica (Russia), Stohl Racing (Austria), and Motor Image (Singapore) in an effort to expand their international horizons. Since 2005, over 500 of the previous model IMPREZA WRX STI spec C Group N base cars (2005, 2006, and 2007 models) have been sold with the cooperation of the STI base teams.

The new IMPREZA WRX STI Group N machine has been developed in conjunction with the base teams. The development tests carried out in South America and Northern Europe after the spring of 2007 provided an extraordinary contribution to the development of the new car, as the conditions were extremely similar to those found on actual rallies.

STI base teams have worked together with STI to create a business infrastructure in Group N. In addition to their contributions in developing rally parts, the base teams manage customers and distribute both base cars and rally cars in their respective areas. Rally parts (safety mechanisms and guards) are also provided to customers by the base teams.

FIA Group N Rally Competition Parts on Sale

Subaru Tecnica International (STI) has designated that FIA (International Automobile Federation) Group N rally competition parts for the New Impreza WRX STI sold by FHI will start being sold from November 1st in Europe, South America, and other specially agreed motorsport bases (STI base teams).

Rally competition parts for the new Impreza WRX STI (vehicle type: Subaru CBA-GRB) were developed by STI with all the know-how accumulated throughout previous models. They will start being supplied as soon as the vehicle goes on sale, and able to be used after the new Impreza WRX STI becomes approved by the FIA group N homologation in January 2008. The competition parts consist of the minimal necessary core parts and VO parts; there are also newly designed parts for the full model change of the vehicle as well as existing parts for previous models. The new parts were developed in conjunction with FHI partner suppliers that provide production car parts and as a joint project with suppliers with strong international backgrounds. It has been proven that the final product has performed extremely well, from the very good results of tests carried out on both rough gravel roads in South America and twisty smooth gravel roads in Northern Europe.

The competition parts feature increased durability of rubber parts such as mounts on suspension bushes and engine gearboxes, brake systems with accomplished large volume calipers, variable proportioning valves that optimize braking and increase stability, LSD with selection of multiple operating characteristics (3 types in front and 3 types in the rear) to increase competitiveness, and pillow ball top mounts with increased strength and part life. The parts delivery system has been developed towards the 2008 season so that the end users can start preparing as soon as they get their hands on the base vehicles. The engine control unit (ECU), drivers control differential (DCCD) control units, FIA group N 32mm engine restrictors, all with the know-how of STI consolidated into them, are prepared for delivery sometime after December 1st.
