Mitsubishi Transfers Euro-Market Outlander Production To The Netherlands

Mitsubishi announced today that due to the strong European demand for the Outlander, production of the SUV for the Euro market will be transferred to its NedCar factory in the Netherlands from 2008. Currently, Mitsubishi produces the Outlander at its Nagoya Plant in Okazaki, Japan and the new SUVs for PSA Peugeot Citroën (rebadged versions of the Outlander) at its Mizushima Plant in Kurashiki, Japan. As production of the Euro-market Outlander shifts from Nagoya to NedCar, production of the new SUVs supplied to PSA Peugeot Citroën will be transferred from Mitsubishi’s Mizushima Plant to its Nagoya Plant (both in Japan).

So, to be concise, Europeans will be offered the Japanese branded Mitsubishi Outlander made in the E.U. and the French branded Peugeot 4007 SUV and Citroen C-Crosser SUV made in… Japan! Judging from the mediocre build quality of the cars produced in NedCar (Mitsubishi Colt and until previously, the Smart Forfour) and unless Mitsubishi turns things around at the Dutch factory, we’ll vote French.

2008 Mitsubishi Outlander: New 2.2 Di-D & 2.4 MiVEC Engines

Japanese carmaker Mitsubishi announced that it will introduce two new engines for the Outlander SUV at the 62nd Frankfurt Motor Show, a 170Hp 2.4-liter petrol engine and a 156Hp 2.2-liter diesel, both of which will be available in Europe from the fourth quarter of 2007. Additionally, the 2008 Outlander will feature minor improvements like the new milled finish 18” alloy wheels and the soft touch paint finish on dashboard. -Check out the press release after the jump

Preview # 1: Outlander 2.2 Di-D and 2.4 MiVEC

- High Power -

Half way through its first year in the market, Outlander has fulfilled its target with over 13,000 units sold across Europe.

Bringing 80% of conquest customers to the Brand across Europe, it provides them with Mitsubishi Motors’ acknowledged expertise in 4-wheel drive technology dressed in a sharp envelope fit for 5+2 passengers (or 2 occupants and up to 1,691 l of cargo) all within a smaller footprint than comparable D-segment wagons.

At the occasion of the 62nd Frankfurt Motor Show, Outlander will widen its appeal to European customers with the introduction of two additional engines:

• 2.2 Di-D, Diesel common rail (1)*:

• 156 PS @ 4,000 rpm and 380 Nm @ 2,000 rpm,
• All Wheel Control,
• 6-speed manual gearbox,
• Launch: fourth quarter of 2007.

• 2.4 l MIVEC, Petrol (2)* :

• 170 PS @ 6,000 rpm and 232 Nm @ 4,100 rpm,
• 2-wheel drive or All Wheel Control (according to markets),
• 5-speed manual gearbox or stepped Sport Mode 6-speed CVT with optional paddle shift controls,
• Launch: fourth quarter of 2007.

These two new “high power” engines will then complement the current 2.0 Di-D Diesel pump-jet (140 PS @ 4,000 rpm and 310 Nm @ 1,750 rpm) “mid power” power plant (3).

Further improvements for 2008 include (spec. according to markets):

• New milled finish 18” alloy wheels (standard on Instyle)
• Rain sensor and rear parking sensors (standard on Intense+ and Instyle)
• Soft touch paint finish on dashboard
• Rear view camera now available in combination with Mitsubishi Multi Communication System (Full-map touch screen Hard Disk Drive (HDD) Navigation with music server)

Leaving the role of authentic off-roader to the next generation Pajero, Outlander is a no-compromise solution for a different type of recreational vehicle.

Using the in-built adaptability of MMC’s all-new “Project Global” flexible platform it brings passenger car-like levels of active safety and driving pleasure, thanks to its All Wheel Control drive-train, 4-wheel independent suspension, high performance brakes and low centre of gravity. The latter is helped by an aluminium roof panel, using a technology tested with the Lancer Evolution IX.

Marketers; gotta love these guys. You read Mitsubishi’s releasing the Outlander Sport Style Edition in Japan today, so logically you think that you’re going to see something special. Better think again. Even though the translation we made from the Japanese only press release can make a grown man cry, we managed to make ends meet. Wanna know the basic differences? Standard fog lights, 18-inch rims, a roof spoiler and oh, yeah, its available in three exterior colours: cool silver metallic, black mica and the pictured pearl white. Video: Man takes his Mitsubishi Outlander for a catastrophic joyride in Mall!

I don’t know what the heck going around this man’s head when he decided to take a stroll with his Mitsubishi Outlander SUV in the Augusta Mall but he sure gave another meaning to the term... party crasher! Listen to what Lt. Tony Walden of the Richmond County Sheriff's Office had to say about the incident: "He drove through locked glass doors. Continued through the mall and made a left turn and proceeded toward where the new food court is. When he gets to the new food court, the vehicle turns right. The vehicle then drives through those glass doors and exits the mall". -Continued: Click “Read More…” below

Finito la musica? No cause once the man drove out the Mall, he resisted arrest from the Richmond County deputies. As you can see from the surveillance video he was quite pissed at the officers and at some point he actually attacked them! In the end though, thanks to a pint of pepper spray, the deputies managed to restrain the distraught driver and arrest him.

2007 Mitsubishi Outlander European version

A few weeks after the presentation of the Outlander concept in Paris that previewed the European version of Mitsubishi's mid-size SUV we have the first official production pics. In terms of differences between the US and the Euro model, apart from the better-looking mask, there are none. Same goes for the interior which was left unchanged. As for the engine range, the European edition will receive a 140Hp VW 2.0 turbo-diesel and two petrol motors, a 4cylinder and a V6. Sales will start in Europe in the spring of 2007. We'll have more info on the Euro-Outlander later on.

So your not confused, the grey colored Outlander is the European version, the silver one is the US version and the red of course, is the Concept.

SEMA Show: 300Hp Mitsubishi Evolander previews future Ralliart Edition

As its name implies, the Evolander concept infuses the Outlander with performance elements and design cues from the Lancer Evolution. Don't let yourself down cause it's a concept though, as in Mitsubishi's own words , "the Evolander represents the design and engineering possibilities of what could be an Outlander Ralliart production model in the future"

Specs: The output of the Outlander's 3.0 V6 (220 hp) swells to 300 hp with the help of an ATI/Roadrace Engineering Procharger system. The increased power is fed through a 6speed automatic transmission actuated by the same paddle shifters that'll equip the next generation performance model. The list of Evolander's dynamic enhancements includes a Roadrace Engineering/Muellerized coilover suspension system and lightweight 20" OZ wheels.

Exterior: The Evolander's exterior design shares several characteristics with the Lancer Evolution like the fascia design with its cooling and brake duct intakes and the aggressively vented hood. The Lancer Evolution also lends rally-inspired, box flares to the Evolander, increasing the width of the vehicle at the fenders by 28 mm. The Evolander also features a more aggressive aerodynamic treatment, with lowered side sills, fender vents, a rear diffuser and a Ralliart rear spoiler.

Interior: The Evolander's interior also fuses sporting elements from Evolution as the Recaro reclining racing seats that cradle and support driver and passenger helping improve a driver's seating position and vehicle control during aggressive driving.

Mitsubishi to present a European concept version of its 2007 Outlander at the 2006 Paris Motor Show

Mitsubishi will use the 2006 Paris Motor Show in September to unveil a concept version of its all new mid-sized SUV, the Outlander that is already sold in the North American and Asian markets. The Outlander Concept will preview the upcoming Euro-spec Outlander which is due go on-sale in Europe, in spring 2007.

The main aesthetic difference between the US / Japan and Euro versions (see pictures bellow) of the Outlander is focused on the front part which has redesigned light clusters and a new twin grilled mask which is borrowed from Mitsubishi’s new L200 pick-up. Apart that, its practically the same car. More important though, is the fact that the Euro-Spec Outlander will get a VolksWagen 2.0 TDI diesel engine that produces 140 hp and it's mated to a 6speed manual gearbox.

Design: With its Europe-only “Mount Fuji” grille, the 4.64 m long Outlander-Concept is a further showcase of Mitsubishi Motors’ strong visual identity, while its wide stance, muscular fenders and sharp lines leave no doubt about its dynamic abilities. Lean, Outlander-Concept brings drama without gratuitous effects, its kicked-up window line, piercing headlamps and 20” specific wheels giving the appearance of permanent motion.

It will be presented in a sporty metallic red with silver accents (roof rails, side body strips, door handles, front skid-plate, grille surround).

Technology: ¨Neither an authentic off-roader like Pajero nor a jacked-up station wagon, Outlander-Concept is a no-compromise solution for a different type of recreational vehicle. Engine: Outlander-Concept is powered by a derivative of the Volkswagen AG-supplied 1,968 cc, turbo-charged w/intercooler, DOHC, 16-valve, EU-4 compliant Diesel engine fitted to the recent Grandis Di-D. Mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, in Outlander-Concept it produces an estimated 103kW / 140 ps.

Features: Flexible in essence, Outlander-Concept has been designed as a stylish living space, able to suit all requirements and with features to match, be it entertainment (650W 9-speaker Rockford Fosgate premium audio system), seating (clever “Hide&Seat” 3rd row for 5+2 accommodation) or utility (split tailgate and auto-folding function for the 2nd row seats).
